Livin' The Luxury Brown
There has been so much going on since my last post that I don’t know where to begin, nor do I have the wherewithal to do so. Sometime soon (I hope), I’ll be able to give the details of my groupie weekend (It’s a riot, trust), but as for now, I just want to share my lil surprise this weekend.
I started receiving messages that “Livin’ the Luxury Brown” had been released ahead of schedule… well, at least that Best Buy had put the CD out before the release date!
I received an instant message from my boy Jason stating “props girl, you big now getting shout outs”. Huh? How you gonna pop up (especially when I’m invisible LOL) with that random statement? I have no idea what he’s talking about. He continues… “You are Lisa Stanton right?” Uhm, yea… das me. “Well you got a shout out on the CD”.
Fortunately, my sis called on an unrelated matter and she happened to be at Best Buy. Making a long story short, she cops the cd, and YES! Ya girl is right in the liner notes mix somewhere between Outkast and Alicia Keys! Is that wild or what?
Anywho, now I gotta do my lil plug. I’ve become the queen of bootleg… but you know I gotta draw the line right churr! Right? Buy the cd. Buy two even (wink). It is truly worth it! I’ll post more about that later, as I know you are currently headed out the door to cop it ;-)

iCry
Grrr... iT would seem that iM gonna lose all the music files from my iPod when ever I finally add new music to iT. Anyone who has one knows that once you put iT on the dock, it will begin to auto-update unless you have iT set to manual. iNitially iT was, but as my pc had to be reformatted, and iTunes reinstalled, iM s.o.s. Waaaaaaa... alas, what I wouldn't do for Bobby Valentino though (i'LL save that for another post *wink*)

Mood Music
Mood: Blue
Tune: Good Man | India Arie
Driving in a major downpour listening to the 'pod as the radio was boring with a capital B(ORING!). India Arie's 'Good Man' came on and I sang along as I usually do. Eventually I started crying as I do every time I hear this beautiful song.
The first time I heard it was right after the Sept. 11 events. It made me think of all the families that lost their dad (and mothers) in the tragedy and surrounding it (the firefighters). This time, I thought of all the soldiers losing their lives and leaving behind wives and children.
Music is amazing. I've said it many times before. That it can evoke such emotion just by hearing it. I imagine that I could never be an artist and sing something so near and dear to my heart with out bawling like a lil baby. Can you remember a song that really tugged at your emotions?
"Good Man"
by India Arie
I remember the first day
I met you
we were so young
you were a blessing
and there was no guessing
you were the one
Love is so crazy
We had a baby
and said our vows
That's when you told me
should anything happen
I can hear you now
You told me
[Chorus:]
if the sun comes up
and I'm not home
be strong
If I'm not beside you
Do your best to
carry on
Tell the kids about me
when they're old enough to understand
tell them that their daddy was
a good man
First anniversary
remember we
chose a star
And as i stand under it
I can't help but wonder if
You see it where you are
For whatever reason
You don't see the seasons
Change again
Go there with peace of mind
We'll meet on the otherside
Cause true Love don't end
and baby
[Chorus]
Two eyes
looking
up at me
Pointing to a picture like where is he
Mamma are you OK
What did the paper say
To make you cry that way
it said your Daddy lived for you
and your daddy died for you
and I'll do the same
[Chorus]

LOVE
What is love?
1/ A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness.
2/ A feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person with whom one is disposed to make a pair; the emotion of sex and romance.
3/ An intense emotional attachment, as for a pet or treasured object.
4/ A person who is the object of deep or intense affection or attraction; beloved. Often used as a term of endearment.
What a powerful word. Love. Four lil letters. Love. Such varied definitions. Love. Makes you do right. Love. Makes you do wrong. Love. Makes you feel soooo good. Love. Makes you feel vulnerable. Love. It's natural. Love. It's necessary. Love. It's all around me. Love. It is me. Love. Feel it? Love. Hear it?
So Honey challenged 'make a playlist based on one word'. It's valentines day. The word is: Love. The playlist:

Remember When
Sometimes you gotta step out of bounds. When it comes to music, I'm definitely guilty of being the queen of R&B (you thought it was Mary J. Blige ~ phsst!).
My girlfriends (Lisa's) dad died two weeks ago and she's really going through it. She wasn't close to her dad (nor am I to mine) and we've oftentimes discussed and shared our feelings on abandonment and the issues resulting from it. Still, when they are gone, they're gone. And I do need to call my dad before it's too late.
Lisa keeps talking about a country song they played at her dad's memorial. I'm not a country buff by any means, but she wanted to watch the video. I'm so glad that I did. The video is wonderful, but they lyrics ...
Remember When
(Alan Jackson)
Remember when I was young and so were you
And time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when
Remember when we vowed the vows and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when
Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when
Remember when the sound of little feet was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give up
Remember when
Remember when thirty something seemed old
Now lookin' back, it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are, where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when
Remember when
Remember when

Flashback to Flashdance
I am so feenin' for simplier days when all I had to be concerned about was what I was gonna wear to school. Things were so much different then. Hair. Clothes. Music. You'd prolly be surprised at the songs I listened to way back when - way back when being the 80's. My high school years.
I am a military brat (not really, that's just what they called us). My dad was in the air force. I was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, and have lived on air force bases in Missouri, Japan and finally northern California. Before the notion of being Ms. Janet Jackson over came me, I was very much about the top 40 pop charts!
In the process of revisiting my hardly recent past, an arby (as EJ calls it) was born. I invite you to indulge in that which makes me uniquely me: My high school hitz...
Din Daa Daa / George Kranz (Thanks KB)
While everyone else was diggin on Shabba Doo, I was all about the lil chocolate one ~ Bugaloo Shrimp! I dunno which 'Breakin' this song was in (yes there was two, and you know you know it!) , but maaaaaaaaaaan that was the cut! (winks at my sister Monica, who tried to do a lil break dance move! hahahahahaha)
Maniac / Michael Simbello
When I look at Flashdance now, I can't for the life of me understand why I enjoyed it so then. But I did. And truth be told, if I'm flippin around and see it on, I'll watch it. At the very least the part when Jennifer Beals gets her dance on to maniac... I still love that! And yes, I did cut a few sweatshirts. And yes, I still take my bra off like that HAHAHAHA! (Lis jumps in the jog, spin in cirle stint).
I Feel For You / Chaka Khan
Chaka Khan doing a Prince cut?! Now you know that was the jam.
Broken Wings / Mr. Mister
I'm thinking stinky gym... I'm thinking slow dancing an arms length apart... I'm thinking 'why won't Sherman Pruitt ask me to dance'?
In The Air Tonight / Phil Collins
Friday night was allllllll about Miami Vice. And if you watched Miami Vice, you have to know who Phil Collins is! This was THE cut. Let's see if Colin Farell and Jamie Foxx can do a good job as Crockett & Tubbs...
Shock The Monkey / Peter Gabriel
I loved Sledgehamer, but this was my cut. Envision me doing the 'carlton', cause that was how I got down...
I Can't Wait / Nu Shooz
Think bangles. Think big shirts cinched at the waist w/big belts. Think fringed boots. I had'um and I was cute... I was!
I Can't Go for That / Hall & Oates
Hall & Oates scream 80's starting with those hair doo's! hahahahaha
Hey Nineteen / Steely Dan
As an adult, it cracks me up that I liked this song way back when. It's obvious I had no idea what it was about!
Africa / Toto
If memory serves me right, MTV was relatively new. I distinctly remember being scared of this video. Wasn't there a freakin' monkey in it?!
Waiting For a Girl Like You / Foreigner
I'm thinking stinky gym... I'm thinking slow dancing an arms length apart... I'm thinking 'why won't sherman pruitt ask me to dance'? Oh, I said that already huh?! Well it holds true here too... (Where are you Sherman Pruitt?)
Sailing / Christopher Cross
If ever there was a song I loved to sing and didn't know the words THIS IS IT! Too bad they didn't have lyrics.com back then (let alone the internet)! LOL
She Blinded Me With Science / Thomas Dolby
SCIENCE! This video was so crazy. I think I saw it on 'Friday Night Videos' hahahahahahaha.
Rock With You / Michael Jackson
Ahhhhh Michael. So cute and BROWN. No matter what the circumstances and outcome of his current situation, he will forever be the KING of pop. If anyone denies it, i will moonwalk across their behind!
Spirits In The Material World / The Police
My daughter, 15, absolutely loves my 'Best of The Police' CD. It's no wonder. I was prolly her age when I was diggin'um too!
I Would Die 4U / Prince
'Purple rain, purple raaaain'. Prince is the bomb. Morris Day and the Time is the bomb. Prince rockin' purple is the bomb. Jessie in pink is the bomb. Jerome w/the mirror is the bomb. Appolonia with the cape is the bomb. I wanted to go to Minnapolis and jump into Lake Minotonka (?sp). Was anyone as into 'Computer Blue' as I was?!
In Addition Kindred Spirit ::: Honey's on the same page (as usual). Check out her 80's R & B Divas!

DDTG
Mood: Melancholy
Tune: Don't Disturb This Groove | The System | Don't Disturb This Groove
'Lock the door, and turn the phone off, it's time for me and you...'
While standing in the pasta bar line for lunch yesterday, my girl wonders 'why is everyone looking at me?'... lil did she know Mekhi Phifer (and other E.R. starrahs) was standing right next to her! hahahahaha He looks better in real life, but he leaves a bad taste in my mouth after all that Melinda Williams mess... (that didn't sound right, but you know what I mean!).

I wish, therefore I Flow...
Yesterday was hideous. I spent most of the day being stumpped by some non-work (bad Lisa) which would not have been so bad were it not for "V". "V" is a coworker who I'm chummy with. She pops by my desk several times a day to chit chat, which is fine. Because of the angle of my cubicle, and my complete expososure, as well as my bubbling personality (sike), lots of people do it. It's fine, until I'm trying to really accomplish something, as I was yesterday. Typing, sighing, stressing, growling. Never taking my eyes off my monitor, nor hands from mouse to keypad and back. Anyone else would have walked away, yelling 'I'll catch you later'. Not V. She continues to yack, in her monotone voice about God knows what. This was causing me to make ridiculous mistakes which totally extended the length of time it should have taken me to complete the project. I was stressin' more because we had a divisional party that was due to occur within the hour. Everyone was a buzz and excited at the prospect of drinking and eating and chatting on the W.B.'s tab. I was too, but it got overshadowed by my desire to complete what I was working on. I finally had to leave it. And don't you know when I returned to it, later that night, at home when everyone else was asleep, it was nothing... nada... zilch... to complete?! Lesson learned though... No more sneaking to do nothing at work that isn't work (yea right).
So, you say, how does the title of this post correspond with the contents...? Well, I respond, I get home to an amazon box. In it is a CD/DVD I've wanted for sooooooooo long. Several years ago, I heard 'say yes' and was in love with the group 'Floetry'. They couldn't release fast enough as far as I was concerned. When the cd came out, man did they deliver! Fast forward. The cd's been out, concerts have have taken place (none of which, I'm sad to say, I attended) and videos have been made. I'm flippin through the kazillion video shows and there's my girl Marsha, sweatin' from the stage lights, or was it the emotion? Cause she is crooooonin', i mean vibin', i mean feelin', i mean doin' the dang thang, singin' 'it's getting late' all the way LIVE... if i could sing, i'd want to sing like that. she has such ... i don't even know how to explain it. she's awesome. and home girl Natalie on the poetry tip ~ works it. they got a cool thang going on. So back to da box. It's from a secret santa and much appreciated. I'm listening to it as I post, as I did driving in. I can't wait to watch the footage this weekend. [I wonder if I was apposed to wait until Christmas?] LOL

Cause that's my DJ...
Actually I have one... or two... or three. Thanks to radio blog I have endless music possibilities. But with this post, I gotta take my hat off to the one, the only, EJ da DJ! When I first started chatting with EJ, we (along w/Mr. Fresh) were all on a quest to find 'Tamara and The Seen'. Many of you know Tamara from her hit 'Everybody Dance', but what I was feenin' for was 'Affection' (the song too LOL). We had a bet on who would find it first, and if I had doubt then, I have it no more. EJ found it on vinyl and for a few bucks at that. (Lis bows down). If you had love for the Minneapolis sound of the 80's (less the purple one) you have GOT to check out this weeks Old School Mix. Aside from Tamara, he's got Morris'nem, Lisa Keith, Jesse (i used to love his pink suit wearin', jheri curl havin', mad guitar playin' behind) Johnson... you gotta check him and them out, and travel back in time w/The Time... ;-)
>>> EJ mah DJ
